The Halford Hewitt
Pro Shop

During its 110 years of life the Club has only had 6 professionals. The first, Harry Hunter acted as everything, green keeper, course designer, caddy master, from 1892 to 1939 - an incredible 47 years only ended by the war. Following peace in 1945 came a spell of 4 in 33 years.

Andrew Reynolds has been the ‘boss' since 1978 and is still going - not yet fifty!

Until its integration with Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club the building acted as the Clubhouse of the Downs Golf Club - a separate club of local businessmen.
